Classic Lasagna Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 15 oz. ricotta cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of the grated Parmesan cheese, and the egg.
- Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 3 of the cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
- Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta cheese.
- Repeat the layers, ending with the remaining meat sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown
