Classic Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 15 oz. ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  5. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of the grated Parmesan cheese, and the egg.
  7. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  8. Layer 3 of the cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  9. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
  10. Sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta cheese.
  11. Repeat the layers, ending with the remaining meat sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  12. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
  13. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  14. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown
